PHOTOGRAPHY MENTORSHIP

These one-on-one photography mentorships are tailored to address your specific needs and hurdles as a photographer at any stage of your career.

I know, working on improving your skills can be put on the back burner year after year.
I get it, I’ve been there with my photography and many other areas of my life.

// Maybe you’re super comfortable with how things are going but deep down you know you could improve and exceed your own expectations but are afraid it will be hard.

// Maybe the fear of failing at something is overtaking your desire to become great at the thing you so desperately want to know how to do.

// Maybe you endure endless hours of editing during your busy season year after year (late nights and cranky mornings with your family) because it’s just the way you’ve always done it.

Not realizing there are people ready to help make things easier for you.

// Maybe, just maybe, you’ve lost the confidence you had when you first started and are feeling stuck in a rut.

If you’ve read this far, I know you’re not content with producing the same quality of work year after year – you’re an artist and you WANT to get better every day and spend time honing your craft.

The only question left to answer, is when are you going to make it a priority?

I’m Jen

And I’ve rebuilt my confidence and photography skills after years of doubting whether I could do it even with technical training.

When I started in this industry over 15 years ago I was a “late bloomer”, returning to school at the age of 27 years old for photography. I had big dreams of creating amazingly elaborate photographs and being hired by agencies and marketing firms alike.

After being a photographer assistant to many successful commercial and editorial photographers in Toronto and working with them to test, trial and perfect their lighting, and manage aspects of their day-to-day studio tasks and clients all while working in high-pressure environments, I quickly learned that what I wanted and what was realistic for me wasn’t in alignment.

I wasted a lot of time trying to mimic other photographers’ styles, lighting, and stories. When I realized that, I decided to veer off the well-worn path most photographers take and made my own trail.

Fast forward to today where I’ve refined my style, learned what I love (and don’t love) and routinely work on honing my craft so the work I create both brings me joy and is consistent across my portfolio.  I’m fortunate to also be teaching photography students at Centennial College in an editorial portrait class and a sustainable business class.

I know my capabilities, my experience and how I got to where I am today.

In other words, I know my shit and am committed to helping other photographers exceed their wildest dreams when it comes to the images they want to create.

FAQs

  • Absolutely! These mentorships are for photographers at any stage in their careers. Just starting out or maybe just needing a technical tune-up, I can help you overcome any of your photography hurdles to help you refine your photography.

  • Most definitely. I love photographing with both natural light, off-camera flash and both. I love talking about lighting and technical aspects of photography and am also eager to share what I have found works for me and what doesn’t. A lot of it is practicing and playing!

  • I am currently training for a Half Ironman triathlon. That’s 70.3 miles of swimming, biking and running. I have a coach and have invested in a minimum of months of training so I can set myself up to do my absolute best. I share this because I think a lot of people look for a quick CHEAP fix, but they don’t get the results they want. The same goes for photography. If you can invest in your craft and skill, do it. If you can’t, put some money aside each month and work on your craft by practicing until you can invest in yourself.

  • Totally! Regardless of what stage of your photography career is at, I can share the things that worked for me and share anecdotes of colleagues’ experiences, brainstorm ideas, and provide solutions that have worked for me or we can hash out a new creative project you want to try. I’m an open book too so you can ask all of your burning questions on how to start a photography career.

  • The different between taking an online photo course and working with me is I will be able to customize solutions for your specific needs. Online courses are great for one-size fits all answers, but a lot of individual businesses have individual and unique problems. I can help curate custom solutions for your photography needs.

  • This is something we can go over on a call or two. We’ll identify the style and lighting you want to achieve and make a game plan for you to practice practice practice. If you need accountability, I’m your person!

Most likely you’ve seen a sponsored ad (or many) for a photography workshop on how to make 6 figures, how to get more clients or stop offering one of your best-selling sessions altogether. Chances are you’ve tried one or two of those methods too, and that’s ok, I’ve been there too.

But believe me when I tell you that you can swoon over all the Instagram posts, watch all the online videos and wish and dream for higher calibre images but none of it matters if you don’t make refining your craft a priority.

1:1 Mentorship provides access to all I’ve learned over the past 15 years of trial and error in the photography industry.

What this Mentorship will NOT do is try and have you fit into a system or approach that worked for me or another photographer. Rather, this mentorship will address your unique challenges and hurdles so you can produce the same quality of work year after year – as the artist you truly are.

My knowledge, experience and portfolio show how it is possible to BOTH create work you love and want to express as an artist AND create work for paying clients that is cohesive and your unique style.

You most definitely will have to put some work and effort in, but if you’re truly ready to elevate your art and produce incredible images the time is now.
